Life of Speech Therapist, Thea Stoller

When your love for working with kids is evident in every visit, countless success stories are told by the parents you work with, and your professional passion is noticeable – it was high time to hear from Thea Stoller, SLP on what her key to get through to the hearts of little ones at White Glove Early Intervention.

“I was originally drawn to speech therapy because I find that is a very essential role to help people communicate, to build relationships, in whatever stage of life. What I love about early intervention is that it is centering around the entire family. Building the connection with the child is the prime goal, yet collaborating with the parents, teaching them the functions and skills to improve our goals more effectively is as a crucial factor to help children achieve. Some parents benefit from more awareness of the need to engage with young children in routine activities every single day although they are not verbalizing their needs.

Working with children on the Early Intervention Program means no two cases are the same.  Every family, every kid is unique, taking plenty of problem-solving abilities to figure out the approach to take to get the best results. We are to cater our sessions for the specific child we service. The directive of therapies may be similar, but we need to use our six senses to apply it correctly to the children. Especially in the beginning, it may be a trial and error to find the perfect route, or activities that will be come through to the children.

Some children may give you a little run. Especially, children with multiple issues. Presenting them with options of activities to choose from, then making them feel that we follow in the direction is an engaging tool to keep them stay more focused on the therapies.

Whatever it is, there is nothing as rewarding as looking back and seeing how far the children have come, some being completely non-verbal to talking real words.”
